‘Ladder’ is an exercise in atmosphere, largely envisaged through electronic experimentation, yet exuding a warmth that
is quite absent in most new-school ‘ambient’ records. Acute attention to detail in the composition, arrangement and production methods underpins the strength and novel nature of the music, moving between cool, glacial synthesis and guitar sketches. There is clear intent within the record to explore emotions and find reconciliation through its therapeutic energy. It feels like a mature first step for the mysterious artist, Yves.
